A DAY FOR WORSHIP AND REST

Posted by Dr. Bill Blanchard on

The director of a zoo in Bonn, Germany, recommended that he close the zoo for one day each week. He claimed that the lions, monkeys, and several other animals were overly nervous and under great stress because they were viewed by the public every day. So he wanted to close the zoo for one day each week in order to allow the animals to rest.

Upon hearing this recommendation, do you know what my first thought was? I began to realize that some of those animals show better sense than many human beings! You see, the Master Builder knows what will make us work efficiently and last the longest. This is precisely why He tells us in His Word to take one day out of seven and set it aside for worship and rest.

All of us live under varying kinds of stress. As you know, too much stress is harmful to our well being, while some stress is necessary and even useful. But when we become stress-laden, our lives get out of control, and we may even become emotionally and mentally distraught. That is why one day a week, given to worship and rest, may be the solution to many of our challenges related to stress and tension.

So let’s obey God and, in the process, do yourself a favor; determine to be in the Lord’s house with His people every Lord’s Day! You will never regret it, and God will bless you for it.

Devotedly your pastor,

Bill Blanchard
