A SAFE PLACE
Dads/Husbands, you and I are to be a “safe place” for our families. You and I are to be the protector and provider for our homes. And when we gather our families for a time with God, they need a safe place then too. Not a lecture or a sermon, but a safe place. Our families don’t necessarily need a spiritual giant, but just a husband/father who cares about and is devoted to God’s direction.
Our families need a safe place to cry, laugh, sing, challenge, share, and sometimes not to share and have it be okay. They need a time with us that is relaxed—unstiff, when we can pray honestly, and in simple sentences, unrigid, unroutine, but where God has the last word.
Our families need a leader who is a gentleman, not a general. Gracious. Relaxed. Human. A family shepherd who exhibits not infallible authority, but a hunger and a thirst for God.
Devotedly your pastor,
Bill Blanchard
