I CAN’T DO IT ALL, BUT…

Posted by Dr. Bill Blanchard on

Ken Lundberg told of walking to his office on the university campus, having to cross a stretch of lawn between the tennis courts and the soccer fields.  The lawn was constantly covered with tennis balls, containers, worn-out sweat socks, candy bar wrappers, beer bottles, cellophane, and other junk.  For a long time he simply complained about the situation, but then he decided to do something about it.

He knew he did not have the time to stop and pick up every piece of litter; there was just too much.  But, he thought, “I can pick up what is directly in my path.” And over a period of just a week or so he cleared a 20-foot swath!  While the rest of the area was still covered with litter, his path remained clean because he was able to maintain it by picking up things every day.

How can we apply this principle in our lives individually as well as at Northway Community Church?  Well, there is no way we can feed all of the hungry people in the world, but we can feed the hungry in our direct path.  We cannot correct all of the grouches, but we can, with a word of affirmation and a smile, spread the meaning and the joy of the Gospel among those around us.  We cannot love all of the unloved children in the world, but we can love our own and the children of those whom we encounter.  We cannot encourage all of those struggling with life, but throughout each week we can help those in our office and down the hall.

So remind yourself of this: I cannot do everything, but I can do some things; and what I can do, by the grace of God, I will do for the glory of Jesus Christ.

Devotedly your pastor,

Bill Blanchard
