THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EASTER

Posted by Dr. Bill Blanchard on

The resurrection of Jesus Christ is an event that occurred more than 2000 years ago that we still celebrate to this day because of the great significance it holds for our lives and for our eternities. When the followers of Jesus came to the tomb on the first day of the week (Sunday) after His crucifixion:

  • The tomb should have been sealed and guarded, but it wasn’t!
  • The stone should have been in place, but it wasn’t!
  • Jesus should have been inside, but he wasn’t!

The empty tomb of Easter had a message for those in the first century, just as it has for us today:

  • To science and philosophy it says, “Explain this event.”
  • To history it probes, “Repeat this event.”
  • To time it challenges, “Blot out this event.”
  • And to faith it pleads, “Believe this event.”

The omnipotent God, who planned for the resurrection of His only Son to be the hinge by which death opens up into life, could not be thwarted by soldiers standing guard or a stone rolled into place to seal Jesus’ tomb.

  • “And they went and made the grave secure” (Mt. 27:66).

How Presumptuous!

  • “He is not here” (Luke 24:6).

How Perplexing!

  • “He has risen” (Luke 24:6).

How Triumphant!

  • “Come see the place where He was lying” (Mt. 28:6).

How Conclusive

For the eternal good of your life, as well as for the glory of God, at this Easter season, if you are far away from the Lord, then run to the cross of Calvary.  Be identified there with Christ in His substitutionary and sacrificial death for the sins of the whole world.  Only then can you be identified in His bodily resurrection in life everlasting.

Devotedly your pastor,

Bill Blanchard
