Year End Giving, 2020

Posted by Dr. Bill Blanchard on

I am a little slow in getting Northway’s year-end financial results to you, but here they are.  And for those of you who attended our quarterly church conference in person this past Sunday, please note that the following represent some recently revised figures.

Let me begin by thanking you for your faithfulness and generosity, and by expressing gratitude to the Lord for His provisions.  Since the pandemic hit almost a year ago, all of our home groups and Sunday School classes came to a screeching halt, and our worship services were strictly virtual for several weeks.  Later, as with most other churches, we were able to begin in-person worship services and Children’s Church, but with extra care to be socially distanced.  This all seems so unnatural and peculiar, and over half of our members have not felt comfortable attending a worship service throughout this entire pandemic season, so it is only natural to assume that our giving would be affected.

Furthermore, I have read from several different sources that it is expected that 20% of our churches and Christian institutions will go out of business entirely in the wake of the Coronavirus pandemic.  These are frightful figures, but we have carried on faithfully and to the best of our abilities as we’ve trusted the Lord and one another.

With this in mind, at the end of 2020:

  • The amount received to our Building Fund rose to $138,270
  • Our undesignated receipts surpassed our expenses by $1,335.06

I truly am humbled before the Lord for this wonderful report.  And, again, thank you so very much for your generosity during a troublesome time.

Additionally, I am pleased to announce that we are now able to give online through our website, thanks to Kim Stout who took the primary lead in coordinating this effort.

From our very beginning, we have never “passed the plate” to collect offerings during our worship services.  We simply place an offering box on a table near our entrance/exit, and we encourage people to give as unto the Lord without any pressure from others, and I usually only preach on the subject of giving as it comes up in the biblical text in the expository messages I preach systematically from God’s Word.  Furthermore, I don’t know the giving records of any of our people, and I have not asked our Treasurer to provide me with such.  I know that this is not the way most churches operate, but we are trusting you and the Lord completely at this point, and I hope each of you will keep these facts in mind as you continue to give faithfully unto the Lord according to His provisions in your life.

Devotedly your pastor,

Bill Blanchard
